Fabulous experience in a lovely cottage by the river! The home overlooks the Maury River, which you can walk to right outside the back deck. Quiet location with beautiful views. The home is comfortable, spacious enough to gather the family together and has amenities to satisfy both the outdoor adventurer as well as the person who wants the creature comforts of home. We look forward to coming back next year!!

Nice and quiet!

House was great for my family and I. The river is right there and the Maury is a great place to soak in the sunshine. Neighbors were super nice. The check in and check out was nice and easy. Kitchen is a little small, but very functional. Overall a great property!

Great experience, plenty of fish to catch and release. Calm and peaceful vacation. Internet access was slow and weak due to multiple devices

Great stay for W&L graduation

We were in town for Washington & Lee graduation. House is exactly as described. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to come back when we can enjoy all of the outdoor spaces and activities. Owners are very responsive and easy to work with. We would highly recommend.

Rent this house

Our family loved the layout of the house, the comfort of the beds, the porches and outdoor recreation. The easy drive into town made the location convenient. The house is on a quiet hillside with beautiful views to the Maury River. The days we were there the temperature was into the 90s, so a swim was a perfect afternoon activity. Overall, the place is clean and comfortable with great sofa seating and decks. We also used the canoe and corn hole yard games. We would love to stay there again!

Peaceful setting, great views, a lovely and very comfortable home with space for gathering yet private enough to feel like you are “getting away.”

Cottage had a phenomenal location right along the Maury. Comfortably fit 7 adults. Very clean. Hosts were responsive with any questions. The kitchen left a little to be desired but otherwise was fully equipped. Great gas grill and and porch areas for outdoor activities. Overall, a great space!

Cozy Cottage

We enjoyed staying at this great cottage by the river during our visit to town for a horse show. It's close to the horse center and a great escape from the show grounds. The home is in a beautiful and quiet area and provided us with a restful space to rest and relax when not showing. We had plenty of room for our small group and pups!

IdealBeautiful Home and Property

We had a lovely Easter weekend in Lexington, thanks to our spacious and well-appointed accommodation. Our family, college student son, and a few of his friends all had plenty of space to gather (and spread out) comfortably and enjoy the gorgeous setting. The Maury riverfront is stunning, and while it was too cold to canoe this trip, it’s definitely on our to-do list. The beds were so comfortable, everyone slept like babies, and we had everything we needed to make the most of our stay. We cooked out on the gas grill, lounged in the hammock, walked around the picturesque area, played cornhole, and watched Final Four basketball. Everyone who visited us agreed that this is one of the best rentals they’d ever seen. Thank you for creating an ideal retreat with easy access to town; we hope to return soon.

This is definitely the place to stay in Lexington. Great river access and very scenic. 10 min from town but very private.

Great vacation home

We loved the home and the owners are super nice. However, you should ask the owners to run a speed test of their internet to see if it will suit your needs. Especially if you need to work from the location.

Gorgeous view, great for family stay

Our family celebrated Thanksgiving here and we had a great time! The property was very clean and the pictures were accurate. We especially loved laying on the hammock and enjoying the view of the river. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends!

Quiet and Convenient for Lexington

We were 4 adults in Lexington for a horse show at the Virginia Horse Center and the house worked perfectly. Beautiful, quiet setting just minutes to the Horse Center, grocery shopping and downtown Lexington. The house was clean, comfortable and a restful place to begin and end our busy days. Plenty of room for all of us with both private spaces and great common spaces.

Beautiful, peaceful location but very convenient to Lexington. Parking situation a little tight for more than 3 vehicles. If you like the water you'll love this place

We arrived and found the cottage to be clean and stylish with plenty of room for everyone. Comments from the group included appreciation that the beds were very comfortable and that there were plenty of towels and washcloths in the bathrooms. The hall fridge was handy for cold drinks. There is a very large table with room for group dining as well as game playing. We really enjoyed our stay there!

Your home was lovely and charming and we are on our way again in 2 weeks. The linens and towels were just new fluffy and perfect and we loved the back yard. The location was excellent and Amy got in touch with me quickly and with a smile in her voice! The river was right in our back yard as promised, you need sneakers or heavy-duty water shoes like Keens or Tevas but it is well worth it! It beats a pool's lazy river any day!

Relaxing cottage, clean and well kept. Just outside of town but a short drive in to Lexington. We got locked out (our fault) and the property manager showed up to let us in within 30 minutes. Great service. Our dogs also enjoyed exploring the grounds. We’ll be back!

This is the cutest cottage in a gorgeous spot. The house is lovely, very clean with great amenities and a very good size (there were 9 of us). Didn’t feel cramped at all. Love the master suite and bath! It is great location (we were at a horse show At the Virginia Horse Center). Wish we had more time to enjoy the river! Thank you for the hospitality!

Riverside Cottage was amazing! We had a lovely stay. It was close to VMI, yet felt very much "in the woods". The river is peaceful and full of fish! My son is a fly fisherman and loved fishing in the river. We will be back!

Nice house for a weekend getaway

We really enjoyed our Easter weekend stay at Riverside Cottage. Despite the rain and swelling of the Maury River, it was cozy and comfortable. The location is great if you want to head into Lexington or the surrounding area. Beds are comfortable, and luckily they had HBO so that we could watch Game of Thrones, which was a huge benefit! With our son being at VMI, our other son planning to go to VMI, and me being an Alumnus, I have no doubt that we will look into staying here again!

Riverside Cottage was the perfect getaway for our family. It was close enough to stores for emergency trips for Thanksgiving dinner supplies, but isolated enough that we enjoyed some private time. The house had a large central living space that accommodated our crew and plenty of bedrooms so we could spread out. The bathrooms were large and there were plenty of towels--always a nice touch. We had a small bonfire on Thanksgiving night, which was wonderful, and we enjoyed hiking along the river with the dogs. Everyone agreed they'd like to return in warmer weather so we could make use of the boats stored under the house. Overall, a great experience.

This house is great! Have stayed twice now. Convienent location, beautiful scenery, and the house is very well kept. Only suggestion would be that maybe that there would be a discounted rate for extra people. Love this house!

Didn’t get to personally meet the host but Janeen but everything was laid out in an email and text messages. I will definitley stay again if available on my next trip.

Relaxing "Get Away from it All" Setting

Our family came together in the Lexington area for a nearby "destination" wedding. We were delighted with the home's setting, down a narrow lane, with a gentle river and dramatic cliffs nearby. The home was large enough for us to spread out in, and the main living area was homey, providing very comfortable furnishings for hanging out. The photos do not really convey the comfort of this place. The wireless service was great. The kitchen was small but provided everything we needed. We did not cook. Nearby Lexington is quaint, with lots of good restaurants and pubs. We did have one issue with the smaller bathroom, there was an intermittent bad odor. We reported it and were told it was being addressed. The "master" bathroom was large and easily accommodated us all. The nice washer and dryer came in handy too. There is plenty of space for being outdoors as well. Unfortunately, the weekend we were there was not conducive to being outside much, but the fire pit and decks with seating looked inviting.
Overall, we had a great weekend, and our experience was enhanced by having this wonderful place to stay and be together.

Family Reunion

My children all want a vacation week when they can enjoy each other's company. This house had the perfect dining/living room to talk and plan another day's activity. They all like outdoor activities and always have a fishing contest. The access to the Maury was perfect, easy to wade and get into tubes and boast. The fishing was especially good. Everybody caught a fish. The girls won again!
It is close to Lexington and its variety of places to eat so when no one wanted to cook we did not go hungry. The only minus is the very small kitchen.

VMI soccer weekend

My husband and I were in town for a weekend of women's soccer. The location is perfect if you are looking for peace, solitude and gorgeous views. Historic Lexington is only a short drive away. The master bed was comfortable and the house was immaculate. The gas grill was convenient to prepare food for additional dinner guests. A memorable bonfire on our 2nd night, with another soccer family, was the highlight of our stay....with s'mores of course. Check out time was early, 10am. Would stay again in the future.
